A new Obama ad apparently portrays McCain as out of touch, and mocks his admission that he doesn’t know much about computers or how to send e-mail. This seems to be a subtle departure from the campaign strategy they have been employing.
I’m not sure I would consider this a positive development in the campaign. I still like to think the high-road is the way to go, and will eventually win after 2 disappointing elections, but maybe at some point you have to start fighting fire with fire. I think it also has a chance of backfiring on the Obama campaign. You don’t want to piss off old people, and if you lose the “I don’t know how to turn on a computer” voting block, well, you’re losing 7 votes (including McCain)
From Fox News:
“Things have changed in the last 26 years. But McCain hasn’t. He admits he still doesn’t know how to use a computer, can’t send an e-mail,” the narrator says. “After one president who was out of touch, we just can’t afford more of the same.”
More:
The Obama camp, occasionally criticized for being reluctant to respond to attacks, declared in a strategy memo Friday that those days are over. Campaign manager David Plouffe said the campaign will double down on its effort to portray McCain as “out of touch” and incapable of addressing modern challenges.
“In recent weeks, John McCain has shown that he is willing to go into the gutter to win this election. His campaign has become nothing but a series of smears, lies, and cynical attempts to distract from the issues that matter to the American people,” he said.
Finally:
McCain has said he relies on his wife and staff to work the computer for him and that he doesn’t use e-mail.
McCain apparently is staying on message, which pretty much means no message at all with his new campaign ads:
McCain released an ad accusing Obama of attacking his running mate Sarah Palin because “his star’s fading.”
The narrator says Obama “desperately called Sarah Palin a liar. How disrespectful.”
The ads were a change in tone from the forum at Columbia University Thursday night in which the candidates praised each other for their service to the nation and sounded a collective call for more volunteerism.
Well, it’s the truth, isn’t it? She does seem to lie a lot. The Troopergate scandal, earmarks, the bridge to nowhere, etc………

UPDATE: I imagine this is what goes on in John McCain’s office when he and his staff try to get the computers up and running in the morning. The damage alone they must cause probably costs this country millions! (To see the video clip, click the link below)

The Ad, all things considered is making fun of McCain’s war wounds, and this is why: His war and torture wounds are what impede him from using a computer and sending an e-mail. . . It’s not that McCain doesn’t now how, it’s that he is physically disabled. And to make fun of that is a low blow. Obama, when all things are considered, is making fun of McCain’s war wounds that have left him scared for life.

Please please please stop using a physical disability has an excuse for not using a computer. Computers are wonderful tools that are used by hundreds of thousands of people with disabilities far worse than Senator McCain’s. It is not necessary to be able to type on a keyboard to use a computer. Voice recognition software is easy to use and I am sure the McCain’s can afford the modest cost. If he is unaware of the technology that only furthers the point that he is out of touch, not only with technology, but with the disability community. Oh, but wait those of us in the disability community already knew he didn’t want anything to do with us…

I believe what you are trying to say is “scarred” for life. My nine year old has better spelling skills than the average adult who insists on writing what they think are profound posts online.
Give me a break…my mother in law and uncle who are ten years older than McCain are computer savvy. And yes, there is voice recognition software…hell, the company I worked for 20 years ago was working on it!!!
If he can’t type because of his war injuries how can he do anything…like eat, write, drive? Stop making excuses.

I was in a hurry when I wrote that post. Give me a break. I had to logg off.

Really? Then tell me, have your mother in law and uncle been tortured and placed in the same position as McCain has been? — If not then shut up.

8 years ago, the Boston Globe, long before now even confirmed that he was disabled:
“McCain gets emotional at the mention of military families needing food stamps or veterans lacking health care. The outrage comes from inside: McCain’s severe war injuries prevent him from combing his hair, typing on a keyboard, or tying his shoes. Friends marvel at McCain’s encyclopedic knowledge of sports. He’s an avid fan – Ted Williams is his hero – but he can’t raise his arm above his shoulder to throw a baseball.”

— I don’t know how he eats, but still you don’t move your arms and fingers the same way when you eat as when you use a computer. — This is not an excuse, it’s a fact so deal with it.
